Walking by the sea

A Costa da Morte (Death Coast) has always been the start and end of routes. Beyond the footprints we leave along the way, Muxía is the beginning and the end of experiences that transcend the human and the divine.

Muxía was and still is the destination for countless travellers who have felt the Atlantic at this point of A Costa da Morte. The vast majority are anonymous, just like each and every wave that beats upon the headland of A Buitra and disappears in the Furna da Buserana. We would like to welcome all of them – all of you – to the new visitor reception centre lying on the way in to Muxía, at A Cruz viewpoint.

A beautiful view and the beaches washed by the Muxía – Camariñas estuary will be with you while you discover the content of the "Muxía – walking by the sea" project, a large glass construction – built with sustainable materials – where before you experiment all that this fishing town has to offer you, you can discover the keys to its natural, landscape, maritime and gastronomic wealth in this land of eternal sunsets. Among them is Cape Touriñán, where twice every year the last ray of sunlight in Western Europe sinks into the sea.

At the visitor reception centre you can also discover the three sensorial routes along the coastline in the municipality, with the help of new technologies. Along the three sensorial routes there are twenty QR codes that take you directly to our web site and provide access to multimedia information that will help you interpret what you see just by using a Smartphone.

The "Walking by the sea" project

"Muxía – walking by the sea" ("Muxía. Camiñando cara ó mar" in Galician) is a tourism promotion organised by the Town Council of Muxía and jointly financed by the European Fishing Fund, the Regional Government of Galicia Rural and Maritime Department and the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and the Environment, through the Coastal Action Group for Zone 3 - Costa da Morte (GAC 3 in Spanish).

Muxía wishes to promote itself as a destination for experiential tourism through this project, based on marine resources and underlining the cuisine, local nautical, leisure and cultural resources and the biodiversity of the zone.

We would also like to express our thanks to everyone who has collaborated in designing and setting up the project for their invaluable help.
